1. Sheriff Hutton Castle was where Richard III started the Council of the North.

2. Clifford's Tower (or York Castle) Still stands on the original Motte built in 1068.

​

3. Helmsley Castle was slighted by Sir Thomas Fairfax at the end of the Civil war.

​

4. Scarborough Castle was built by Henry II and lasted until the Civil war as major player in English history.

5. Danby Castle was the ancestral home of Catherine Parr. Once married to Henry VIII.

1. After the Treaty of Lahore the Maharajah Duleep Singh was given lands in Yorkshire by Queen Victoria. He, and his Elephants were a regular Whitby visitor.
